Tree of Life fresh off of win over Granville Christian by 2 points traveled to Mansfield Ohio on Saturday to take on non-conference opponent Temple Christian Crusaders. The Trojans again struggled in the first half but good defense kept them in it and it was tied at the half 16 – 16. Tree of Life found itself down by as many as 6 points in the 2nd half and trailed by 2 points with time winding down. Ian Leach attempted a game winning 3 point shot and missed but was fouled and went to the line. After missing the first one he nailed the next 2 free throws. The Crusaders shot from beyond half court at the buzzer rimmed out and we were headed to OT. Shawn Scarberry made 2 huge free throws and blocked a shot at the buzzer to preserve the 2 point victory for the Trojans.
The Trojans were led by Isaiah Smith and Craig Mazzoli with 11 points each, Raph Hayes added 9 and Ian Leach added 8 points. For the 2nd straight game Tree of Life connected on 8 3-point field goals to propel them to victory, but it was key free throws down the stretch that allowed them to secure the victory.
Tree of Life is 14 – 4 on the year and 8 – 2 in the MOCAL and will travel downtown Columbus to take on Cristo Rey on Tuesday night before returning home for Senior Night on Thursday night to take on Licking County Christian.
